DE TIAMO – From Humble Beginnings to a Beloved Brand

DE TIAMO has humble beginnings that started in 2020 and has blossomed into a beloved brand. Our clients love our stylish, affordable luxury that epitomises the definition of sustainable fashion, empowering local communities and reflecting the business ethos of supporting locals by training unemployed women into expert seamstresses, fashionistas – and co-lab designers!

Founded by Debbie Blake during the pandemic, there was a need to create items to assist the crisis at hand. Starting off by addressing the needs of a global catastrophe, she had a vision, now realised.

A Story of Resilience to Success

It all began when she decided to teach gardeners, housekeepers and even her husband’s driver to sew face masks to supply the farm workers and other residents on their rural estate in the spectacular KZN Midlands. This turned out to be an immediate success, which prompted Debbie to purchase a flat industrial machine to meet the growing demand. Within a few months the little team was supplying well-known online platforms such as Yuppiechef as well as local restaurants, farms, and multiple corporate companies.

 

 

DE TIAMO’s Vision and Mission – How a Top Linen Fashion Brand was Born

As things calmed down, DE TIAMO then started expanding into a diverse range of homeware and ladies’ linen clothing. Focusing on the vision, a linen fashion brand was born. This was when the magic happened. The brand has quickly gained popularity with a loyal following both in South Africa and also internationally. They have opened shop in the UK and are taking the fashion world by storm!

 

 

Sustainability in Style – New Modern Factory Space!

In June 2024, DE TIAMO began production in their new space at 83-84 Curry’s Post Road. The new facility is a testament to DE TIAMO’s utmost dedication to sustainability and brand values. The newer, more modern, solar-powered factory has been equipped with the latest technologies with features such as bespoke workstations and spaces for design inspiration!

 

 

DE TIAMO’s New Flagship Retail Experience & Local Focus

The new centre includes fireplaces for staff comfort and also farming land for growing food to support local families and homes. DE TIAMO’s new headquarters also boasts a large flagship retail outlet showcasing their exquisite range of ladies linen fashion. Further reflecting the brands’ values and mission, all renovations and services were done by local suppliers and artisans only.

 

 

Grand Opening of Flagship Retail and Factory!

The grand opening on Friday the 19th of July 2024 was a memorable celebration. It featured a performance by Grace Botha, a well known and loved local musician with a phenomenal voice. The event included visits from suppliers, attendance by the local community and influencers in the fashion world.

Guests enjoyed shopping for handmade garments and other high-end brands, savoured exquisite food from local suppliers and celebrated the evening with champagne – followed by a heartfelt toast by Debbie, who wore this seasons’ newest colour – Chartreuse Yellow. The event was beautifully captured by local photographer Dané Turvey, highlighting the vibrant new retail experience. Her work and passion for photography brought the event to light, and for you to see! Being a highlight of the Midlands Meander, their attendance and video coverage were welcomed! Trending Fashion at its Finest – Beyond 2024

The retail section of DE TIAMO’s official home showcases the DE TIAMO range – alongside brands like Batela, Jekyll & Hide, Birkenstock, Art of Soule, Aurora, Silvery jewellery, and Mungo linen.

DE TIAMO’s “Timeless” collection includes ladies’ linen pants, jackets, shirts, skirts, tops, dresses, dungarees, and shorts – all handcrafted from 100% pure linen and styled to European standards. The décor features Ardmore wallpaper, chandeliers and comfortable couches that creates a homely and inviting atmosphere.

 

 

Food, Friends, and Fun – The DE TIAMO Experience

A new dining experience is now open to the public at the new flagship centre that offers locally made Terbodore coffee, a wide selection of treats, homemade shortbread and locally sourced paninis and bagels. The space provides a comfortable setting with a stunning view which is perfect for working or relaxing. Coming soon, pickleball courts will offer a unique experience of community engagement and making full use of the picturesque farm setting.
