Care Instructions For Linen Clothing
Linen is a natural material that stretches as you wear it and returns to size when wet. It is normal for this natural fibre to fade as it ages and gains more character.
Below are our top tips for washing your linen garments. By following these care
instructions, you'll help ensure your 100% linen clothing stays beautiful and
lasts a long time!
If you notice any stains on your linen clothing, it’s best to pre-treat them before washing. You can use a gentle stain remover or create a paste with water and mild detergent to apply directly to the stains.
- Use a gentle cycle with cold water (30°C or 86°F) to prevent shrinking or fading.
- It’s best to wash linen with similar colors to avoid color transfer.
- For delicate items, consider hand washing in cold water.
- Gently agitate the fabric without wringing or twisting to avoid damage.
Use a mild detergent specifically formulated for delicate fabrics. Avoid bleach, which can weaken the fibres and cause discolouration.
Air Dry - Lay the linen flat on a clean, dry towel or hang it to dry in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight to prevent fading.
- Iron While Damp
- Set your iron to a medium-high heat setting (around 200°C or 392°F) as linen can withstand higher temperatures.
- For best results, iron linen while it is still slightly damp. Use the steam setting on your iron to help smooth out any wrinkles.
- Iron on the reverse side or place a cloth between the iron and the fabric to avoid direct contact.
- Fold Carefully
- Store your linen garments folded rather than hung to avoid stretching.
- Store in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight to prevent discolouration.
- Avoid Soaking: Do not soak linen items for extended periods, as this can weaken the fabric and cause unwanted creasing.
- Spot Clean: For stains, try spot cleaning with a damp cloth or sponge before washing the entire garment.
Care Instructions For Cotton
- Water Temperature: Always wash in cold or lukewarm water. Hot water can cause shrinkage and color bleeding.
- Detergent: Use a mild, pH-neutral detergent. Avoid bleach and harsh cleaning agents, as they can damage the fibers.
- Washing Machine: Use the delicate cycle or a gentle wash cycle to minimize agitation.
- Inside Out: Turn cotton garments inside out before washing to protect the outer surface and reduce fading.
- Fabric Softener: Avoid fabric softeners as they can coat the cotton fibers, making them less absorbent and potentially dulling the fabric's appearance.
- Air Drying: The best option is to air dry cotton items, as this prevents shrinkage and colour fading.
- Tumble Drying: If using a dryer, use a low heat setting. High heat can cause shrinkage. Rather avoid tumble drying.
- Iron Temperature: Iron cotton fabrics on a medium heat setting, preferably with steam or a damp cloth to prevent scorching.
- Iron Inside Out: Ironing inside out can help protect the fabric's surface.
- Stain Removal: Treat stains promptly with a stain remover before washing. Spot cleaning is recommended for best results.
- Storage: Store cotton garments in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Breathable storage options like cotton bags are preferable to plastic.
